5 Things You Didn't Know About Massage

Updated: Jun 13, 2019

Massage services are wonderful and maybe you have had more than you can count, but we bet that there are at least five things you didn’t know about massage. At Zense Thai Massage Spa, our massage therapists work with the unique needs of each client to provide the relaxation, therapy, and range of motion assistance that they need. Whether you are looking for a shiatsu massage, deep tissue massage, or even a couples massage, we can help. Stop by our massage spa in Dallas and schedule your spa treatment today.

1. Don’t tell your massage therapist they can’t hurt you.

If you have ever thought about telling your massage therapist to go as hard as they can because they can’t hurt you, then make sure you don’t actually say it. A massage therapist absolutely could hurt you if you gave them those directions. While this would never be their intention, they have been fully trained to know where every muscle attaches, as well as how to use their elbows, forearms, and more to provide the intensity and width of massage that you need. Instead, simply ask them to use a deeper pressure to achieve the level of massage that you need.

2. Pain doesn’t equal benefit

The old saying of “no pain, no gain” still gets thrown around today as if it were completely true. Despite what you may have believed growing up, however, this statement is patently untrue when it comes to massage. A healing massage should never involve pain. The type of massage you get should be beneficial to what your body needs. If you need a deep tissue massage, this does not automatically mean that you are tougher than someone who wants a Swedish massage. Honor your body by asking for the therapeutic style that will most benefit you.

3. It can alleviate arthritis symptoms

If you suffer with arthritis, then you probably already know how frustrating it can be to deal with the stiffness and soreness that it creates in the joints of your body. Arthritis is most common in the hands and wrists, but it can occur in other parts of the body as well. If you struggle with arthritis, then consider scheduling a massage to get relief. A therapeutic massage can address both the aching joints and the muscles associated with the area that can become strained due to the inflammation.

4. Size doesn’t matter

Don’t hesitate to let a massage therapist work on you just because they are smaller in stature or not muscle bound. Even petite massage therapists can provide the deep tissue massage that you may need to get relief. They know how to use their hands, arms, and elbows to provide the intensity necessary. In fact, because they know more about your muscles than you probably ever will, they are aware of the right spots to address for you to receive the maximum benefit.

5. Pain isn’t logical

Sometimes the pain you feel in your back isn’t actually coming from your back! It could be coming from your hips, legs, or even your abdomen. The body is kind of crazy with how interconnected everything is, which means that you need to let your massage therapist do a little bit of exploring to find the point of origin so that you can have true relief.

We hope that you enjoyed learning five interesting aspects of massage today. Massage services are wonderful ways to find relaxation and relief from pain.
